Grace for All Generations

The primary purpose of Edgemont is to glorify God.  Having been created in His image, we do this in relationship with Him as His children, made possible by the atoning person and work of Jesus Christ.  By God’s grace, we have received “the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, ‘Abba! Father’” (Rom. 8:15).   This status unifies all Christians as “members of the household of God” (Eph. 2:19) and gives us the blessing and responsibility to live our lives in the light that Jesus Christ has shined upon each one of us.  As a member of the household of God, or as the Apostle Paul put it, as individual parts of one body, each member of Edgemont is encouraged to use their talents and spiritual gifts to help the church grow.

A popular wisdom saying from the Old Testament is Proverbs 29:18 – “Where there is no prophetic vision the people cast off restraint, but blessed is he who keeps the law.”  This tells us that God’s will – His vision – has been revealed to humanity, and that He has provided loving rules that guide and protect those who obey them.  But this proverb also warns that those who ignore God’s revelations will do whatever seems right in their own eyes, which ultimately leads to chaos and destruction.

And so the vision for Edgemont is simply to align with God’s vision – revealed to us in His Word.  We do that by striving to understand the Bible and apply its truths to our lives.  We do that by praying, both as individuals and corporately with other believers.  And we do that by partaking of the sacraments which Jesus instituted (baptism and the Lord’s Supper).

We believe that those gracious means of understanding and relating to God will draw persons and families of all generations to rightly worship Him, to fellowship in spirit and in truth with each other, and most of all enable us to grow in grace so that we glorify God and enjoy Him forever.
